Our Mission

Types of Testing

The mission of CPAC is to provide high quality psychological assessment services to the Fredericksburg and surrounding areas. We strive to provide thorough, comprehensive reports and recommendations that provide you with a better understanding of what your child is experiencing, to gain insight into what they need, and to develop interventions to support optimal development. We use only doctoral level clinical psychologists (not a technician or student) to maintain a high standard of service. See what makes us different.

Why Psychological Testing?

Psychological testing can provide valuable insight into how your child's mind works, can identify strengths and weaknesses, and can pave the way for effective interventions to address your child's specific challenges. No two children are alike. Having a deeper understanding of how your child functions cognitively, academically, behaviorally, and emotionally can give you the tools you need to help your child to thrive. Testing results can help to clarify diagnoses, guide medication decisions, assist schools, and inform treatment and other interventions.
A psychological evaluation can test for conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, mood disorder, learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, neuropsychological disorders, and behavioral disorders. For children with complicated behavior or mood symptoms, it can help to clarify a diagnosis. Testing can also help to pinpoint specific areas of strength and weakness, which can help caregivers, teachers, and medical providers to know how to best help. We offer various types of testing, including comprehensive psychological evaluations, psychoeducational testing, and developmental evaluations.

Collaboration

We view assessment as a collaborative process, involving the child, parents/caregivers, teachers, and other community members. We will talk with your child's school, therapist, daycare, or other caregivers (if you permit this) to ensure that we gain a thorough understanding of your child and his or her environment.  We can also provide feedback to these individuals after the assessment if you would like. We may conduct live behavioral observations of your child in a "real-world" setting (e.g., classroom, daycare).

Testing can help to diagnose and clarify issues such as:

  • ADHD
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Depression and Mood Disorders
  • OCD
  • Learning and Attention Difficulties in College
  • Neuropsychological Disorders (e.g., concussion)
  • Behavioral Problems or Disorders
  • Conduct Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia
  • Cognitive (Intelligence) Testing
  • Educational (Achievement) Testing
  • Differential Diagnosis
