Parenting Questions?
We can Help!
What is a consultation?
A consultation is a formal discussion with a professional - in our case, a psychologist. Consultations are targeted meetings aimed at addressing a specific concern or topic. They do not focus on diagnosing, obtaining a complete history, or treating a psychological condition. A consultation simply provides information and targeted suggestions to help provide immediate assistance with a specific parenting challenge or concern.

What are the components of a Consultation?
First, we will talk on the phone to make sure that your topic can be adequately addressed with a consultation. If we believe that another service may be better (e.g., therapy; consultation with a medical provider; etc.) we will provide referral suggestions.
If your topic fits well with the consultation model, we will send you a personalized questionnaire that will help you to define the concern/topic. Your psychologist will read this document and conduct any necessary research and prepare any relevant resources (e.g., handouts; worksheets; book recommendations; websites) or referrals prior to your meeting. The psychologist will also create an outline of material to cover in the consultation and will suggest a length (typically 90-120 minutes) for the consultation.
When you arrive for the in-person consultation (note: consultations may also be done over the phone in some circumstances), your psychologist will discuss your problem/concern, will give you information on the topic, and will provide recommendations and suggestions or other referrals to help you address the problem from here.
